Is it permissible to lie? If so, when? If not, why?

When it comes to lying there is really not a true answer as if permissible or not. However, I try to not decide of one over the other. When it comes to lying, at the moment of the given situation to lie, I think if is the right thing to do or not, it might sound wrong but in reality it makes sense. I follow this rules when it comes to lying, one, if the lie I am going tell is for my own benefit I will not lie. Second, if the lie I’m going to tell is going to avoid further problems, then I will lie. Thirdly and final, if at the moment of the situation I am with friends and we all are required to lie in order to cover each other then I will lie. Many people believe that lying is bad but it really is not. Lying can avoid further problems in a “hot” situation as people might say. There are many people who the truth might truly hurt them and that is the one individual who we must lie in order to keep their happiness from leaving. Many might say that lying is bad and many might say that is not, so in reality is up to every other individual to decides for themselves if lying is bad or not. As more people grow open minded, the more quickly lying is going to be adopted by society.

  1. Thank you for posting your reply Moises. In what way can you include Henry Shackleford into your analysis about lying? Was his lie permissible?
